This page contains information about the British Waterways run lock at Allington which is near to Maidstone, the County Town of Kent.
The barrage is the limit of the tidal River Medway. It controls flooding of the down-river towns of Chatham and Rochester as well as providing a navigable river as far as Tonbridge. There are moorings near to the lock as well as further upstream at Allington marina. There is an ancient though re-built castle close to the barrage which is a private home. Albeit that they hire the place out for weddings. It is not open to the public.
There is a Beefeater pub/restaurant close to the river and lock which is very popular with the locals and boaters alike.
