The Pic du Jer is a foothill of the Pyrenees close to Lourdes. There is a finicular railway which reaches almost to the summit. The rest of the way is up a fairly rough but well worn path. As you can see from the photographs, the views are spectacular both of the mountains and down into Lourdes.
Some little known information is that local mountain cyclists ride the railway up the mountain then ride down it. Riding some of the very steep slope must be a terrific adreniline buzz.
The weather had been a bit damp during the first days of our visit but cleared up well for our visit to the mountain. This enabled us to get some very good shots of the Pyrenees and the foothills. There were not a lot of visitors that day, which was good, and not a lot of those walked up to the summit. We were surprised to see a seismic centre at the base of the mountain as we would have expected the mountains to be quiet as they are so old.
